I hate waking up early, but I love watching the sunrise while I eat my cold oatmeal, so nearly every morning i’m conflicted. This morning I chose the sunrise, and it was worth it to watch it burst over the mountain tops, illuminate Mica Lake and to feel it slowly warm my face.
The sun stayed out for us all day and we had a typical August-in-Washington kind of day – warm and a little humid. There were a lot of cold, glacial water sources to take advantage of, which I was grateful for after starting the morning with a five mile climb.
A ten mile descent took us down to the Suiattle River.
We then meandered through a forest thick with tightly grained trees until a final three mile climb up to a campsite near Miner’s Creek.
