“Just because I hike doesn’t mean I like walking.” Thunderfluff

I had one thing on my mind when I woke up at 5 am this morning – getting to Stehekin as soon as possible so I could eat as many delicious things as possible at the Stehekin Pastry Company.  Fluffy and I both got up earlier than usual so we could book it in to the High Bridge Ranger Station to catch the 3 pm bus to town. I felt like I was trying to hike through quicksand most of the day, but I made it. So did Fluffy and JD. The Stehekin shuttle bus driver begrudgingly stopped for five minutes at the bakery so we could run in and grab some food before heading in to town.  I got a big yogurt parfait and day old cinnamon roll and sticky bun. I’ve been hearing so much about this legendary place with its legendary baked goods. I was concerned that it was going to be a letdown, since most of the town food out here gets touted as the BEST whatever (burger, milkshake, pizza, insert various food item here) and it is never as good as people say it is. But I am willing to admit that this bakery is pretty. darn. good.  When we got to town, we did laundry and cleaned up in the most disgusting public shower.  JD and I had to wear our ground sheets until our clothes were done, which was a first for me.  Later that night, I had a ridiculously expensive burger and camped behind the charming visitor center.
